About Us

In April 2013, the National Practitioner Support Service (NPSS) was initially established to support local authorities to meet the 10 Local Challenges set out in the ‘Making every contact count’ report, which had been published the previous year by the Ministerial Working Group on Homelessness.

Six years later, NPSS now provides services to local authorities and their partners covering a wide spectrum with a common goal; the improvement of frontline housing and homelessness services with a view to increasing opportunities for the early intervention and prevention of homelessness.

The credibility of the National Practitioner Support Service comes from the experience of the team; all of whom are practitioners with broad experience of managing and delivering housing options and homelessness services within a local authority setting. This recognises local authorities’ preference for a local approach with national delivery.

The annual NPSS National Conferences provide the perfect opportunity to share learning and inspire change.

NPSS works to support the implementation and enhancement of prevention focused services through the development and delivery of a bespoke package of support.

COVID-19 coronavirus: an important message to delegates, speakers, facilitators and exhibitors

NPSS is closely monitoring the advice being provided by government; the health and wellbeing of all those attending our conference and other events is of the utmost priority.

At this moment in time, plans remain in place for all NPSS events, including  the NPSS National Conference on 29 and 30 June 2020, to go ahead, unless we are directed by government to cancel or delay.

NPSS training courses are designed to support housing professionals working at both strategic and operational levels and include a wide range of subjects. Courses are available both as roadshows and in-house sessions and are delivered by expert trainers in a friendly and stimulating environment.
